Action Again, who ran a fast-finishing second behind Planet Voyage in the Pioneer Sprint in Alice Springs earlier this month, has a bright future over the short distances, according to Dyer.
“He’s a superstar on the dirt tracks,” he said. “He’s a big striding horse who gets his confidence on the dirt.”
Dyer said Action Again’s next start with be the Palmerston Sprint (1200m) at Fannie Bay on August 1.
“He will be fit and fresh and I think it will be right up his alley,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Top End’s favourite son, Hawks Bay, is happy in retirement at the Marymount Farm in Kyneton.
“He’s strolling around the paddock enjoying life,” Dyer said.
He said there was no Hawks Bay #2 in the pipeline but he has high hopes for Proverb when the son of Commands comes to the Top End for the Darwin Cup.
“He has won a Group 3 over 1600m in Queensland and if we can get him to about 90 per cent of what he was before I think we will have real contender.”
